Known to gamers as the creator of The Guild, TV junkies as Vi on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Whedon dorks as one of the stars of Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, Felicia Day certainly gets around. It was just announced that the SciFi Channel (I still refuse to admit the new name…) has nabbed her to star in their upcoming original film Red, which will premiere sometime in 2011.
This is part of their latest series of films which will re-imagine fairy tales in various ways. It kicked off last month with Beauty and the Beasts: A Dark Tale, which starred Estella Warren, and there are adaptations of Sinbad, Aladdin and Hansel & Gretel on the way, sure to be just as quality as most of SciFi’s original programming. (Battlestar sure was an aberration, eh?)
Red is of course a take on the classic Red Riding Hood story, and Felicia Day will star as the titular character, a werewolf-hunting descendant of the original Riding Hood. One day she brings her fiance home to meet her family and he learns that they’re all werewolf hunters, thinking that it’s a joke until he’s bitten by one himself. While her family wants him destroyed, Red tries to find a cure for him. Kavan Smith (Stargate Atlantis) and Stephen McHattie (Pontypool) also star.
Day is a rarity, a unabashed female dork who’s actually really talented at what she does, so it’s good to see her getting headline material. Even if it just is for SciFi (for now…)
In honor of the recent Portal 2 announcement, watch her singing Still Alive in front of an incredibly geeky crowd at PAX two years ago.

I am so in love with that dorky little redhead.
wasn't there another little red riding hood announced recently? twilight related, i think?
Michael, you can have her. She's SO annoying.
…about all the Variety reviewers getting fired? On the heels of the "Iron Cross" story this seems like a possible connection, and the ramifications could be huge. It's all speculation of course that either have to do with the other, but it's a very strange coincidence.
Fun Fact: Every man on the Internet would marry Felicia Day (exept Devin). Most women would, too (except Devin). Devin is the exception because he feels the need to disagree with everyone.
Devin wouldn't because he's too in love with himself. I'd do all sorts of dumb things to be with a woman like Felicia.
I saw a little of the Beauty and the Beast one… you would think these Syfy flicks would have gotten better by now, but they seem to actually have gotten even worse! Still, it's kinda fun to watch modern day MST3K fodder when your buzzed/drunk.
Agreed with the above, these SyFy movies are such complete crapfests. So a "talent" of the likes of a Felicia Day, will be right at home in one of these SyFy Originals.
Whedon dorks! hahahaha
what about the SyFy movie "Alice". it was pretty good.
Felicia Day + Red Riding Hood Outfit = Bonerific! (unfortunately though..Syfy = FAIL…why not a McFarlane Toys adaptation???)
Why did that network even bother renaming itself like that? Ooh la la – 'SyFy.' You're so edgy with your use of letters that aren't considered vowels or consanants.
This chick could only be considered hot if I never left my parents basement. But I do, once in a while, so she's a 5/10. Couldn't you find a better picture than the one at the top? Her face looks rattish. Creepy.
Her face IS rattish. No way to fix that.
