Hitfix is
reporting that Logan Lerman is the first choice for Sony Pictures to replace Tobey Maguire in the needless Spider-Man reboot.
A source close to the production tells HitFix Lerman is “almost 100%
locked” but not in contract negotiations for the role yet.
As we’ve already reported the script is being written by James Vanderbilt (Zodiac, The Losers) and will be directed by Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer). It will be a complete reboot of the franchise, taking us back to another goddamn origin story, with the addition of WEB-SLINGING 3D this time, of course. The film is expected to hit July 3rd, 2012 which certainly seems like a short time when they don’t even have a cast set yet. But don’t forget that the film will only cost 80 million dollars, so you shouldn’t expect any big action set-pieces on par with the original trilogy.
Lerman got his start in film playing Mel Gibson’s youngest son in The Patriot. He was most recently seen in 3:10 to Yuma and Gamer and starred in Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief.
Percy Jackson was probably a good dry-run for Lerman to play Parker, as he’s gotta hit all the same notes of a confused high school kid with new-found powers, dealing with puberty and having a social life and such. Not sure what this means for the second Percy Jackson film (The Sea of Monsters) which was supposed to hit in 2012 as well. More as we hear it!

No. Just no. I keep pretending that this reboot is just gonna go away (a la the Justice League movie), but alas it is not.
So, this is basically Ultimate Spider-Man, right? Which people like. I'm not really sure why we can't just embrace that. Hell, call the damn thing "Ultimate Spider-Man".
Spider-Man 2 is about as perfect an adult Spider-Man movie as you could ever, ever hope to ask for. Short of Sony giving the rights back to Marvel to tie Spider-Man into the Avengers universe, I don't see the franchise going many places I'd enjoy. Spidey 3 made me want to abort puppies.
man, i like marc webb and james vanderbilt, but this fukcing concept and the awful talent they have been throwing around in front of the camera sounds like the most awful shit ever….problem is: it will make shitloads of money (especially when looking at it by a budgetprofit margin)

Spider-Man 3 was awesome, I genuinely loved the jazz club dance sequence. It was the very definition of what Sam Raimi does as a director. Screw you guys.

Needless? There's more need to reboot spidey than ever after the atrocious 3rd film. I'm rooting for this guy just to spite devin and because I think this movie will hit the mark I've been watching Raimi miss again and again and again.
I'm still baffled that they're rebooting. Sure, part 3 sucked, but they should have just done what franchises with a sucky entry used to do all the time – ignore the crappy one and move on.

This reboot is a horrible idea that has already lost traction and respect within the industry. Everyone knows this movie is a joke. Production will be cancelled this year. NO ONE wants this movie except TWO Sony execs. You think they REALLY wanted to 'clean slate' Raimi and Tobey? Nope.

Could be worse casting, I thought he was good in Gamer. That said, the whole reboot's still a wretched idea that I'm sure will make Fox's handling of Marvel movies look brilliant.
I think this is some pretty weak casting that says some terrible things about the reboot.
With that said, if you don't thinkt eh franchise needed rebooting after the almost Batman and Robin awfulness of SPider Man 3 you are a fucking imbecile. Raimi tanked the franchise, maybe not financially, but inarguably on a creative level. There was no coming back from that wretched bastardization of the character with those awful actors. It was literally impossible to take the franchise seriously after that. If you disagree, its simple, you don't understand spider man if you think that sub cartoon level circus of a film wasn't a deal breaker.
i'm not saying this isnt going to suck (although i really hope it doesnt) but after spider-man 3 (hell even 1+2 had their terrible moments) there hasnt been a franchise in such dire need of a reboot since a cgi brosnan/bond surfed down a mountain!, i just hope sony can try and take a cue from marvel studios this time round.
I honestly have always found the Rami Spider-man to be lacking (part 2 does have it's moments for sure, but it wasn't really "my" spider-man/peter parker). I have no problems with a reboot what so ever. And of course it should be high school based – I want Flash Thompson made justice!
Hopefully, one of the main characters gets amnesia. That's my favorite part of $300 million costing Spiderman 3; amnesia. And a butler who swoops in at the most convienent time to explain stuff. Awesome writing. Amnesia.

What I'D like to see is for possibly-departing filmmakers to NOT go all out on the last film of their deal (drastically changing status quo, killing off half the cast, burning through the rogues gallery), treating it like there won't be another film even after they leave. The studios really paint themselves into a corner, either requiring a reboot or prequel to keep the cash cow from going dry when (surprise!) the "final" film ends up making tons of cash. Even in the comics, when there's some big world-shattering storyline, they rarely ever have a definitive ending (for major characters and important supporting cast anyway), because they know they still have to have material fo next month.
