Man, remember the Asian ghost story remake craze for a second there when The Ring hit big
and was fairly decent? Remember all the horrible films that followed in its footsteps, both American and Asian? Aren’t you glad that the craze is over?
Well, not quite
yet. According to Heat Vision, the series that started it all will be returning in a new installment titled- wait for it- Ring 3D.
Course, the immediate thought that comes to mind (when your eyes roll back down) is how well they could utilize it with Samara. Coming out of a tv is one thing, but now that spooky gal can crawl out of a theatrical screen. They should just go complete William Castle with it and have someone yell “She’s coming for you!” as she does it and rig the seats to shake.
Paramount’s nabbed David Loucka (of the upcoming Dream House) to write the script, and is in negotiations with Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald to return as producers.
The new film is being fashioned as more teen-centric than the first, and though the logline is being kept under wraps, the aim is to reinvent the franchise. One potential scenario involves teens finding a VHS player that still works.
What teens would even try to do that? They should just upgrade it to a YouTube video or something.

Isn't Daveigh Chase a little old for the part of Samara now? The original ring was 8 years ago and according to IMDB she was 12 when that came out. That means she is 20 now and if you have seen her in "Big Love", she is not a little girl anymore…
that scene scared the fuck out of me when i saw it opening night. also had to watch my gf pee for the first time ever because she didn't want to go alone.
Ringu was greatness, Ringu 2 was ok. The Ring? not a bad remake. Stop already. No more.

Anyone who calls the original japanese film "Ringu" instead of "Ring" is a fucking retard. That is all.
I think moving away from the Naomi Watts story is a wise thing. In fact if THE RING TWO had followed the interesting idea presented in the short film RINGS then we would probably have been spared that boring, convoluted pile of crap that we ended up getting. Although the director's cut is quite a lot better than the theatrical version.
I'm one of those idiots who just dig the whole 3D thing (loved My Bloody Valentine and The Final Destination, albeit they were no more than one-shot thrills), and I loved the first Ring movie and the Ringu series, so what the fuck, let's do it!
Wait, Avatar has already sold 2.7 million Blu-Ray discs in only 4 days to become the biggest selling Blu-Ray of all time? Yeah, 3D was the only reason people liked that movie…..

The American remake of The Ring worked because of a solid script, atmospheric direction by Verbinski and believable performance by Naomi Watts. The sequel took two of the three out and blew chunks. I'm not expecting much from this teenyfied – 3D or no 3D – sequel. It's not the concept of the original film that was the reason it worked, but its execution.
