Deadline is reporting that Neal McDonough is in talks to play Dum Dum Dugan in Captain America: The First Avenger, and I for one am psyched.
In the comics Dugan is a member of Nick Fury’s Howling Commandos, although I suspect that in the movie he’ll be in a group that mixes the Howlers and the Invaders. At any rate, he was Fury’s second in command and best bud, and thanks to comic book magic he’s still around as a member of SHIELD.
McDonough is no stranger to WWII, having fought the Kraut menace in Band of Brothers. I wonder if the fanboys who flipped their shit about Don Glover wanting to be Spider-Man will have conniptions since McDonough doesn’t resemble the red headed, husky and walrus-mustachioed Dugan at all. But who cares – he has a great presence and energy, and he’ll probably be terrific.

I'm fine with Spider-Man being black or hispanic or what not, but Dugan without his walrus mustache…
Still, I suppose he can dye his hair and grow one.
Long as the Howling Commandos stay the fuck away from the Borg, this should work out well…

Because we know how dearly fanboys hold Dum Dum Dugan. But seriously, Neal McDonough single handedly made Boomtown worth a look.
This would have been a perfect part for Nick Nolte in his prime. Hell, he would have been a good Fury too.
Now how about Michael Fassbender for Percy Pinkerton?
McDonough is a strict Catholic so this guarantees Dum Dum Dugan won't get a sex scene. Color me disappointed.
He would have made a great Adrian Veidt/Ozymandias.
McDonough casting is a great piece of news, makes you wonder how serious they are in making this good, not passable popcorn fare good, but a well-thought movie. I guess ipart of t also depends on how the script survives its trip to the finished prodoct. Here's a thought: who's going to be Namor? As that could be a potential springboard to another film.

Man, I'd go nuts if they cast nothing but a bunch of Band of Brothers alumni for the Howling Commandos and/or Invaders. Or as anyone in the film, really.
Good call on him being a great Ozymandias. I like the guy, and though "The Legend Of Chun-Li" (the legend of a character only lameasses play as?) was awful, the guy's a solid actor.
Just a guess PWLovecraft but I bet Namor is under Fantastic Four jurisdictional…..and Fox has him by the little ankle wings……
I can't wait till we live in a world were people are opened minded enought that casting Dum Dum Dugan as a black man won't be met with such fanboy anger…. It worked for Morgan Freeman in Shawshank… I mean why does he have to be white? C'mon guys why are you all so racist?
Out of everyone in Band of Brothers, Michael Cudlitz would have made the perfect Dum Dum Dugan. PERFECT. Argh.
They should have casted Ron Swanson as Dum Dum Dugan.
I don't think it'll be that big a deal considering he'll be standing next to a Nick Fury that's played by a tall, thin, bald, black guy.
