Six character banners for the seven Evil Exes from Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, which were originally unveiled at the MCM London Expo, are now online (I caught them at ComingSoon). Wikipedia has the plot as: 23-year-old Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera) is the bass guitarist for the band Sex Bob-omb, has just met the girl of his dreams, Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead). Scott learns that he must battle Ramona’s seven evil exes, who are coming to kill him. As Scott gets closer to Ramona, amongst the exes his encounters include skateboarders, vegan rock stars, and identical twins. To stay with Ramona, Scott must vanquish all of them before they vanquish him.
Scott Pilgrim is the adaptation of the Bryan Lee O’Malley comic book series and idirected by Edgar Wright. It stars Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Kieran Culkin, Chris Evans, Jason Schwartzman, Anna Kendrick, Alison Pill, Brandon Routh and premieres August 13th. Let's just say, fuck yes.
God, I hope Schwarzmann doesn't screw this movie up. He's actually managed to turn hipster irony into an acting style. All his performances seem to say, "Well, I'm not *really* an actor, I'm just *pretending* to be one, so this isn't really how I act — it's how I would act, if I were an actor, which I'm not. Get it? Isn't it great?"
That said, I have a huge Loch Ness boner for this movie.
Ugly posters, but that clip from a few days ago won me over. Smart move in not advertising Cera.
Kevin's characterization of Schwatzmann is disturbingly accurate… and yes, my excitement for this movie cannot be contained.
*sigh* don't think i'll ever get truly sold on this movie. probably just a rental for me. at least it's not in 3D
Her?
This is going to rock so very… fucking… hard. I can't wait!
Egg?
terrible taste, Ramona
So bad. For a movie based on a comic with manga and video game influences, these posters are dullsville. Maybe the movie will be fun but these posters are way too bland to make it look appealing to the masses. Sorry Edgar, but Pilgrim will tank. Only the geekiest of the geeks will care.
This movie looks uber-gay.
I am really looking forward to this moive, it looks like a LOT of fun. Not having read the comic, I'm not too familiar with it other than what I've read aboout it online. But I do have a problem respecting a woman who would date any of these douches.
I'm too cool for this movie so I'll post insults about it on an internet movie site. I also don't understand irony.
Yeah, it looks dull as hell. It seems Wright faithfully reproduced the surface of the comic book, and totally neglected the heart. Everyone looking smug and hipstery is NOT the heart of the comic.
#13: I'm right there with you. Things I don't get seem gay to me, which is bad, according to my friends in the ninth grade. I want this to be something cool in a non-gay way that features bad ass robots with boobs that shoot high-velocity flechette nipples that tear through other–more badass–robots (that are actually Predators) who have come to destroy Skynet which has placed everyone in the Matrix to power their Alien generators that accidentally turns everyone into zombie vampires (Zompires) which have to destroy the lunar werewolf stronghold before the X-Men and Justice League arrive in their hijacked Enterprise starship to battle the Death Star–which is made out of transformers.
If anything 3D would improve this dried up turd. Instead of the crusty, crumbling around the edges, white-flecked grogan this movie WILL be, it could be a moist, heavy two pounder!
Will the hipster response be enough to carry this film at the box office?
Sadly, we're seeing a steady decline in the quality of work from the once promising Edgar Wright. Alas, Mr. Wright appears to be a one-hit wonder.
@18:
Hmm.. BOTH of his movies (and for that matter, his television show) got excellent reviews, making "one hit wonder" kind of misplaced here, as he is 3 for 3. Also, isn't it a bit pretentious to declare that you know the quality of a movie without even seeing it first?
But no, you are totally right, one hit wonder.
