Every time there’s a Scott Pilgrim vs the World story, some folks in the comments start going on about ‘hipsters.’ I think these guys believe ‘hipster’ means ‘Person who leaves the house, talks to members of the opposite sex and perhaps has a record collection that isn’t dominated by The Scorpions or Muppet soundtracks.’
If that’s the case, those commenters are going to shit their pants when they see the track listing for Scott Pilgrim vs the World, as it’s packed with such ‘hipster’ acts as Beck, Broken Social Scene, The Rolling Stones and Frank Black. Egads, the hipness!
The soundtrack is actually pretty great, and I can only imagine how cool it is for Bryan Lee O’Malley that the band he created, Sex Bob-Omb, has been brought to life by Beck.

Ha, just saw Broken Social Scene on Saturday, with Pavement, Great show. And Beck is always welcome. Great Track List.
I guarantee you that the real hipsters that people hate will have a great time dressing up as the unlikeable characters in this film (which I distinguish from the characters in the comic) as an ironic comment on how they embrace the lameness while also rejecting it.
Beck is writing the songs for the band? I agree, there is absolutely NOTHING "hip" about that. But it would be "hipster" to mockingly pretend to be into Beck, and happy that Sex-bob-bomb is sounding like Beck. So I guess this makes Devin a true "hipster"?

In this case, by 'hipster' we mean 'someone who is so up on a movie being having cool effects and cool music and cool camera moves, that they have forgotten that what matters are story and character and truth.'
What exactly is it that is so threatening about "The Hipsters"? The tight pants? The tattoos? The musical tastes? I mean a million douchebags that look like Russell Brand is certainly irritating, (I live in Brooklyn. Believe me, I know.) but you never hear this kind of vitriol on the boards about the unrepentantly abercromie & fitch frat house jackasses or the violently racist redneck assholes that seem to make up the majority of the under 30 population. Everyone reading this site probably has more in common with hipsters than either of the other two categories. Oh. There's the problem right there.
The Sex Bob-omb and Crash and the Boys songs are clearly labelled. Does this mean Metric isn't standing in as The Clash at Demonhead as rumoured? Shucks and goddamn.

I'll agree with you about people not knowing what hipsterism really is but Beck, as much as I love him, is a giant fucking hipster. And a huge diva as well from what I've heard about him and seen on stage.
This soundtrack is actually quite "hipster"-ish. Unfortunately, it's not even good hipster stuff. I think they need a little more MGMT and Animal Collective and a little less Beck, although Beck did just record a version of a Velvet Underground album with members of MGMT and Panda Bear from Animal Collective is playing Pitchfork with Broken Social Scene so maybe this does fit directly in the hipster cannon… it just could be so much…. "cooler"
