Yeah. The more I see of this new TRON, the more I suspect it's one I don't need. (I'm sure it'll please the tween set, however so here's another "franchise" starting up.) This new TRON is so kewl (or would it be k3w1!!!) it forgot its brain in 1982. I'll eat my hat if anyone involved actually understood the subtext of the original, much less tried to make something as intelligent as purdy. That shot of the chick gave it all away…

I was under the impression that the "tweens" were into shit with actual "tweens" in it – like high school musical, twilight, hannah montana and the rest of the bullshit marketed towards them.

I grew up on Tron, and it's visually one of my favorite films. Throw the story out the window, ignore the stilted acting and appreciate it for what it is – an original piece of art.

If the makers of Tron Legacy intended this movie only as a starting point for a new franchise, I'm sure they would have made it years ago w/o any care to detail/originality in design and scope. Why go through all the trouble of creating a mythology behind the world of Tron at all?

Sure, new Tron might suck, but I'd love to hear you explain the amazing subtext of old Tron.

I'll never understand how some people feel the need to launch preemptive strikes at movies that haven't even come out yet.

This Tron will be amazing if as nothing more than spectacle. I saw the trailer for the first time before How to Train Your Dragon in IMAX 3D and the look and sound design of the film are amazing. The whole theater was shaking during the light cycle scene.

I´m all for TRON 2. Bring it on! But somebody please explain to me how come the old suits still look coooooler than what they seem to be wearing on the new film.

#2, you don't get it!?! WE'RE the programs in the computer called life!!! #1, I've heard Steve Lisberger, the director of the original, talk about some of ideas and thoughts behind the story of the movie, but even he admits much of it didn't make it to the screen. I mean, 99% of what 99% of people remember of the first Tron, was the 'kewl' stuff – light cycles, light discs, light tanks, and Cindy Morgan in a tight outfit. And Jeff "the Jeff Man" Bridges of course. And Lisberger is very much a part of this new project, as a story consultant, and has given his 'blessing' to this new one (if it was even really his to give). So don't worry, and stop acting like a crotchety old man ("I'll eat my hat…") There's alot more going on under the surface of Tron Legacy, than they've revealed yet. It's going to be blast. I promise!

Free will vs Determination
Theocracy vs Democracy, with the 80s Reganistic business world on the edge of world changing tech advancement mirroring fall of the Roman Empire.

The Red programs represented by Stark and the MCP were analouges of the power structure. MCP was the godhead, tunred into a cold repressive force. Stark was a emporor acting in his name. Blue programs were the peasant class representing thier old ways and traditions complete with a gate keeper and a messianic figure.
The free will thing comes into play when a god is born into thier world, and aides thier hero in defeating the repressive forces. The deeper part is that all the programs are behaving as they are programed to do, including tron. He was ALWAYS the hero, becuase he wa programed to be. Flynn was the wild card that affected the outcome since he was a user in a program world. He was man turned into a program, and the MCP was a program trying to become a man.
Tron obeys his programming, Flynn influences the world aroudn him, and the MCP wanted control. Flynn's free will affected the outcome of the programs, where Trons pre-detemined programming insured he would do what was needed. The title character is not the main character of the film, but it's prime mover. If the story would have been told from Tron's perspective the whole time it would have been Ben Hur.

Who gives a shit about banners, give me a fucking trailer already. Why have I seen more footage of the 2011 Green Hornet than the 2010 Tron sequel.
