I’ve got to admit that I must have been under a rock like a lizard when news of Rango came out, because I hadn’t heard a thing about it until now. And so far all I have is the tagline: The story of Rango, a chameleon with an identity crisis. It stars the voices of Johnny Depp, Isla Fisher, Abigail Breslin, Alfred Molina, Bill Nighy, Harry Dean Stanton, Ray Winstone, Stephen Root, Beth Grant, Ned Beatty, and Timothy Olyphant as The Spirit of the West. It’s directed by Gore Verbinski and scripted by John Logan.
Just looking at this image, with Johnny Depp as the lead, that background and that shirt, I’m drawn to only one reference. All Rango needs is the hat, some Elvis shades and a ciggy…. Of course, the trailer guys were thinking that too, thanks to a high speed cameo.
Anyway, the trailer is now up over at Apple’s iTunes. Looks like fun.
Thanks to Brian for the tip.

Hunter S. Thompson's in that fucking trailer! Rango hits the windshield of his convertible.
Looks like it could be fun.
It looks delightfully twisted. I had to go back and watch it twice to catch all the great little moments
That's some good-looking animation there.
That poster gives out a very fear and loathing vibe. me likey likey.
just spectacular…animation is growing up
rango looks good. I like gore, he's like what tim burton would be like if he'd made a decent movie post-1995. but i was surprised to look back and see how few verbinski films are actually good:

Yeah because animation was just a wee baby before. Fucking moron.
Wow, Terry Gilliam meets Pixar. This is the first time I've ever been exited for an animated movie. I'm glad something good came out of Verbinski not doing the Bioshock movie.
