A couple of weeks ago, Devin brought word on the slightly misleading campaign going on with The Expendables that might lead one to believe that Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis may be having major parts in the film. Now there’s a new TV spot over at UGO that possibly perpetuates that notion. Especially now that they got the top two spots in the billing. Perhaps it would be best if you went into the below clip with the knowledge that that isn’t exactly the case. The Expendables opens on August 13th.
Thanks to Felix for the tip.

Agreed that this marketing strategy is going to disappoint some people, but what did you really expect? Anything to get more people in seats! That said, I thought this was a lot better than the full-length trailer – the cutting was better and it seemed more exciting, even with such a cheesy, dated (and overrated) GnR track playing in the background. I'm there.
I had to sit through a commercial to watch this commercial.
Isn't Eric Roberts in this? I can't believe they aren't milking that more.
I don't think so, not really. Only a fool would see that trailr and think they were getting a full-on Stallone/Arnie/Willis film. And don't forget, Stallone and Arnie had been doing the action hero thing for quite some years beofre Brucey got in on it. He was busy moonlighting while they were kicking asses. I've never truly felt he was part of a threesome with those two. Kurt Russell now…can Tango and Cash 2 happen? Weird things are happening out there in sequel land…
I would happily watch these actors punch each other in the balls in slow motion for three hours. Can't wait for the expendables!!!!!
I don't see why anyone would be shocked that this is the route they're taking with the film's marketing. The goal is asses in seats, not truth in advertising.
@#5 I agree completely. It's like how they marketed WATCHMEN as a typical superhero movie and FIGHT CLUB as a film about and underground fighting circuit. It's all about that opening weekend gross.
I refuse to watch a commercial before I watch a commercial, so I can't view that trailer.
@6 uh…no. I am pretty sure the crux of the Watchmen marketing was that it was a totally DIFFERENT type of superhero movie, of course reinforced by an R-rating…
Fight Club is about an underground fighting circuit. What movie did you watch. I know I know its about man;s desire to blah blah blah, but are they going to put that in the trailer?? Number 6, your post is worthless and your examples don't work.
Actually, #6's post isn't worthless. I understand what s/he is saying.
"Bait and switch" is such an overused statement. Next person that says it in my presence is getting kicked in the nuts.
#8, your post is worthless. 6 is correct with everything he/she said. Nice try though!
