A bit of a brain teaser for you folks today, but don’t strain yourselves on this one as it’s a doozy! Below we’ve got two posters- one is for the original 1987 monster movie flick The Gate, and the other is from the upcoming Alex Winter-directed remake. Good luck!

For now read Nick’s review of The Gate on dvd and bump the rating up a few notches if you have fond childhood memories of watching a young Stephen Dorf deal with incredibly fucked-up and violent situations. Like watching his father’s face melt off in his hands.

hopefully it's as good as freaked
Alex Winter?
I thought something horrible happened to him years ago. Good for him!
Those both fuck with me because I can't stop wondering how the underground monster has its arms coming out of completely different holes. Like, did it poke them through the thin walls separating the holes? Why the fuck would it do that? I mean, I get the idea of wanting to look dramatic as you prepare to surface and close-together hands might spoil the effect, but seriously that's got to hurt. The dirt probably has rocks, which would be murder on its armpits and elbows.
Stephen Dorff. The remake will never be able to top that bit of casting with a young actor who goes on to be a Space Trucker. In fact, the kid will probably be older, about to graduate high school or something.
Tibor spelled backwards is Robit.
Robit is actually the famous android director Alan Smithee.
Naw but seriously, shit was hardcore. None of this crybaby bullshit like the bucktoothed kid from Poltergeist. And the nerdy kid mouthing the lyrics to 80's death metal for no reason whatsoever? In the middle of his air guitar rock out? Awesome.
Great! The original poster was fantastic and they made it better. So much better than the dvd cover for the rerelease.
has anyone else noticed though on the "new" poster it has creatures designed by HR GIGER? – may be interesting afterall
Alex Winter teaming up with H.R. Giger? I've been saying for decades that this collaboration NEEDS TO HAPPEN. Thank you.
while I'm not sure about this remake, it's great to see Alex Winter directing. He's an incredibly talented director and not as prolific as he should have been.
If it ain't broke don't fix it. The face melting scene always frightened the shit out of me as a kid.
I just want more flicks with awesome stop-motion animation effects. Is that too much to ask?
I freakin' LOVED this movie when it was first out on cable years ago. I watched it again last month. Damn… those little Demon critters, the workman's corpse in the wall… and that huge final Demon… great freakin' flick, still love that creepy stop-motion!
Excellent!!! (really? it took someone this long to post something this stupid?)
