Do you believe as I do that The Coen Brothers are very close to being the greatest living American filmmakers? Well hell, even if you don’t, you need to wrap your eyes around the trailer for their next film, True Grit. A re-adaptation of the same novel on which the 1969 film was based, True Grit starS Jeff Bridges in the role that landed John Wayne an Academy Award. The story follows a little girl’s quest to avenge her father’s death, and her relationship with the grizzled marshal she convinces to accompany her. Hailee Steinfeld, Matt Damon, and Josh Brolin also star.
No Country For Old Men is a western in virtually every sense of the word, and it’s also one of the best films of the last quarter century. Applying themselves to a fully-fledged period Western is incredibly exciting and I am both eager and frightened to see it. There simply is no movie I need to see more.
The teaser is brief, and rides completely on the unmatched power of Coen/Deakins photography. Add on a haunting children’s vocal piece (“Where No One Stands Alone” by The Peasall Sisters –thanks KungFuCornelius) and this just feels like another classic in the making.

Great flick, but this is hyperbole of the highest order. It's not even the best Coen Bros. film of the last quarter century.
Love it! There's been some promising looking but ultimately pale attempts at westerns lately, but this one like the real deal! The only one who looks out of place there, from the little one sees, is Damon. He just looks silly.

The Coen brothers are two of only five directors in which I'd literally go see ANYTHING they choose to direct (the other 3 being Scorsese, PT Anderson, and Tarantino). While I personally believe A Serious Man is the best film they've done so far this century, it is nice to see them go back to No Country territory for this one. Looks amazing.

I think that, honestly, No Country For Old Men is the exact opposite of Oscar Bait. It is completely unsafe territory. A film that calls a lot of things into question, challenges the audience, and is extremely graphically violent from time to time. Sounds just like "The Blind Side"… doesn't it?
have any of u fucks even seen the original true grit? fuck off. none of you shits have seen it. it's a classic. i love the coen brothers, but this is pretty ridiculous. they should not be remaking this flick. please learn something about westerns, and i don't mean unforgiven u little shits, before u cum all over this fuckin waste of a remake. why not remake " let the right one in"? oh wait. thanks american film makers.
Yep, what the guy above wrote. Remaking True Grit, even if it's more like the book (which it's not), is utter bullshit. The fact that this generation has no sense of history or understanding about the Duke, does not let the Coens slide on the fact that they are daring to have someone else fill the shows of a true American ICON!
If any of you had any sense of film history, the very thought of this film existing, would piss you off. Seeing as the average 20 somethings film history starts with something like freaking ID4. It's a bit much to expect you folks realizing how much of an affront this film truly is.
Don't get Americana confused with a true sense of cinematic history. John Wayne isn't that good, nor was the original True Grit.
And Damon looks great in those stills.
Yeah, I'm a 40-something John Wayne fan (thank my dad for that) and love his version of Rooster Cogburn HOWEVER I trust the Coens to bring the goods. NCFOM is exactly as Renn described it; it's a damn shame I had to be literally begged to see that film in the first place.
I saw the original WHEN IT CAME OUT. So stop your 'mouths' bout no one being old enough. To those ignorant out there, True Grit with the Duke is indeed a true classic and YES it was a damn good movie look at what it was up against that year in Oscars.
I think this will be the ONLY remake that they will do that will work. Be glad it's a REAL Western for Chirt's sake.
