What are your favorite kills?
On October 29th, Cinefamily, who have really been upping the number of must-attend events they throw every month, will be presenting their selection of the 100 most outrageous movie kill scenes. Those of you who don’t live in or around Los Angeles unfortunately cannot attend, but you can certainly enjoy this brief but gleefully fun taste…
Cinefamily’s own calendar blurb says it all:
From the golden age of goremastery to the innovative new technologies of modern effects wizards, cinema is littered with the bodies of the awesomely dispatched — and cold-blooded murder, in the hands of innovative filmmakers who present it in ways we’ve never seen before, can be a heavenly fine art. Tonight, in a show originated at Austin, Texas’s Alamo Drafthouse, we’ll be celebrating the absolute finest in on-screen annihilation with a non-stop nightmare of intestine-ripping, head-bursting, unrepentant baby-eating and other crimson-soaked savagery! (For tickets, click here.)
Since Mondays suck, I thought it could be a fun diversion today to ask you to share some of your favorite movie kills. I’ll get the ball rolling by throwing out:
Emil’s death from RoboCop: getting hosed with toxic waste, then completely exploded by an on-coming car; bonus points for his head tumbling over the top of the vehicle.
The little boy from Halloween III: after seeing this film on TV as a kid, I never trusted a pumpkin mask again. I knew the truth, the thing would turn my head into a pile of bugs and snakes.
So chime in on the message boards or in the comment section below. Let’s hear what you’ve got!

Rasul's death in Kick-Ass: tazed by the titular superhero, and then stabbed clean through the back from behind by Hit Girl. It's unexpected and leads into what might be my favorite character introduction ever.
Props for including Meet Joe Black
Jack-O: the toaster death.
I believe I have Riviello to thank for opening my eyes to that masterpiece.
Talia, you might want to put some thought into that before you write down the first thing that comes to mind…the microwave death in that movie is more memorable that that. One good death scene I can think of was in the movie "100 feet"…a cheap little horror film starring Famke Janssen from a couple years ago. This kid she's banging gets beats to death by the ghost of her ex-wife…bones snapped, face busted, teeth shattered…all by an invisible ghost! Pretty neat scene.
The diving board scene from Lethal Weapon 2? really?
I would have thought the surfboard decapitation would have trumped that.
I picked up The Last Boy Scout on blu ray a few weeks ago, and got around to watching it for the first time in many many years. I have to say the sequence where Milo is not only shot and killed but then falls like Greg Louganis into a helicopter blade is one of the best kills in cinematic history. A close second is Eric Trevalyan in GoldenEye falling to his death at Arecibo and then seeing just enough satellite dish catwalk to contemplate a change of underpants. Also, I would be remiss if I don't mention the death of Screwface in Marked for Death, having his face sliced in half by a sword then having his eyes gouged out then shoved through a wall then having his kneecap and leg cracked in two, then shoved down an elevator shaft where he falls about 5 stories onto a spike impaling him Vlad-Style. That's like the Rube Goldberg of on screen death scenes.
Simon MacCorkindale in Jaws 3D. Crunch crunch crunch. Like underwater potato chips. RIP Simon (2009)
ichi the killer slicing the guy in half with his shoe-knife thing
Final Destination 2: window pane, boy who is slow. Done
Alright, please somebody identify these ones. The face getting pushed through prison bars, the giant tongue, the pink stuff squirting out of the girl's vag, and the two ladies setting themselves on fire onstage. PLEASE, I must track these down.
Hot Fuzz. You know which one.
The face through the bars is from Wishmaster 2 but I'm not sure about the other two.
The death of the priest in the '76 Omen…man got impaled by a church.
The sheet-of-glass decapitation strikes me as a much more memorable death from the original THE OMEN! As far as deaths that got under my skin, man-meets-fire-extinguisher from IRREVERSIBLE is burned into my brain. In the more fun category I will nominate the dozens of victims of lawnmower blade from DEAD ALIVE.
