The trailer for the new Jason Statham / Paddy Considine actioner, Blitz is now over at Yahoo! Movies. It’s not a stirring tale about the plight of the doomed Chicago USFL team; rather, it features Statham as a tough cop who is tasked with tracking down a serial killer who is preying on cops. It’s based on the novel by Ken Bruen and is part of a series, which means it has potential franchise implications. It’s also the first project to be produced by Lionsgate UK.
Nick was pretty high on the Statham and Considine pairing last year, and this looks like it could warrant it. The film is directed by Elliott Lester (Love is the Drug) and written by Nathan Parker (Moon). Luke Evans, Aiden Gillen and David Morrissey co-star in the project, which is due sometime next year.

I don't understand why we still need Bruce Willis what with Statham doing his thing way better than he does anymore.
Brilliant. Just brilliant. I just got back from a lunch hour where I was going on and on about the awesomeness of Statham, the Crank movies, the Transporter movies (even if 3 is kinda shite), etc., and then I come back to this. I love it.
What sets Statham apart from the rest of his ilk is his ability to be a bona fide actor when the story calls for it.. That's not an underhanded slight at his action hero capabilities, it's just a matter of fact. You could pick any one of his movies and see that the guy not only has the physical chops but can act to boot. This is good news and a way for him to branch out.
I spent a good half of that trailer just trying to figure out if that was Carcetti from The Wire, and it was!

@Magic of Velcro Bruce Willis has 100 times the screen presence and charisma that Statham will ever have.
