While the basic plot of The Muppet Movie has been known for a while, Disney has just released an official synopsis that sheds much more light on it. Even better, it tells what has become of the old crew now that they’ve disbanded. They’re a bit obvious, but it’s no less humorous to imagine a rich Gonzo or Animal working on his issues…
On vacation in Los Angeles, Walter, the world’s biggest Muppet fan, and his friends Gary (Jason Segel) and Mary (Amy Adams) from Smalltown, USA, discover the nefarious plan of oilman Tex Richman (Chris Cooper) to raze the Muppet Theater and drill for the oil recently discovered beneath the Muppets’ former stomping grounds.
To stage The Greatest Muppet Telethon Ever and raise the $10 million needed to save the theater, Walter, Mary and Gary help Kermit reunite the Muppets, who have all gone their separate ways: Fozzie now performs with a Reno casino house band called the Moopets, Miss Piggy is a plus-size fashion editor at Vogue Paris, Animal is in a Santa Barbara clinic for anger management, and Gonzo is a high-powered plumbing magnate.
As usual with a Muppets film, expect a ton of cameos… like Billy Crystal and Jean-Claude Van Damme.
Based on the success of Tangled, one of the top Thanksgiving weekend openings ever, Disney has decided to go the same route with The Muppets Movie, opening it Wednesday, November 23rd. Good news for all of us, since it was originally planned for release on Christmas.
Is anyone one else as happy as I am that we’re going to be able to see a new Muppets movie in theaters? Cause I’m ecstatic.

Pants…so short…so tight…
Just a heads up – The Muppets Take Manhattan is playing tonight, Friday the 10th, at 8:00 at the Landmark Loews in Jersey City, the greatest movie theater in the universe. Can't wait.
I am also ecstatic that we'll be seeing another Muppet Movie in theaters, particularly one that seems to honor the original TV series and feature film. The Muppet adaptations of other stories were fine, but I like my Muppets unfettered by a pre-established plot.
What's sad is, I talk to anyone younger than 30 and they have no idea about the Muppets. They go, "Muppets? You mean like Muppet Treasure Island?" And I go, "NO! NO! NOT LIKE MUPPET TREASURE ISLAND!" Then they walk away slowly without taking their eyes off my hands. Anyway, hopefully this movie gets the Muppets right…show them dagnab kids…

Isn't the plot just a rehash of the first Muppet Movie? So, another remake then.
#7, uh, no. The first Muppet Movie was the story of how the Muppets got together in the first place, how they all met, with Kermit and crew trying to get to Hollywood and stuff while escaping the evil Doc Hopper who owned a chain of frog leg restaurants and wanted Kermit to be his mascot, etc. etc. So, no this is not like the first movie at all, hence, NOT A REMAKE. dumbass.
I smell BAD all over this! The Muppet movies that work best all feature a common dynamic… The Muppets are the main characters against a human foe. When human characters become the driving force interacting with the Muppets, you get Muppet Treasure Island, Muppet Christmas Carol, Muppet Wizard of Oz, and a 50/50 on Muppets Take Manhattan. Hell, even the guys who made Kermit's Swamp Years understood this. Add to that, the fact that the last adventure of the Muppets set in our world was to keep their theatre from being turned into a Rave-Monkey club (accomplished by making the building a historical landmark, btw making the oil baron's plans a little difficult to swallow) and I start to wonder if the writers have put any stock into these characters' histories at all.
Muppet Christmas Carol was better than Dickens, and I will not hear a word against it.
