I have had a tiny bit of optimism in Paul W.S. Anderson’s The Three Musketeers. I knew it was silly, but it had such a good cast. Ray Stevenson as Porthos was sort of reason alone to be curious and enthusiastic about it.
Scratch that!
The trailer debuted with little fanfare today (and I’m a bit late catching it, sorry!), and it’s no wonder. I don’t know what the hell this is beyond the 3D lovechild of Pirates of the Caribbean and The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, with a dash of The Matrix for spice. (Please know I’m not at all comparing it to Munchausen; it’s just clear that’s what it wants to look like.)
You know, The Three Musketeers is a pretty good story all on its own. You don’t have to add flying ships or a bungee jumping Mila Jovovich I’m not sure why no filmmaker one past 1974 has figured that out.

alexc, Don’t you mean…The Three Musketeers in 3D, All For One, and All For…FUN, for…EVERYONE! Paul W.S. Anderson aka the…Good Director, Paul Anderson, looks to have a great film, with plenty of swordplay, rescuing of Damsels and Enow feats of Derring Do, to be a great time at the theater!

Yeah…so…I am mildly and cautiously intrigued. I don’t know why, but this trailer worked for me. I usually can’t stand Anderson, yet this seems like it could be maybe, possibly a little fun – rented. And that picture you posted makes Bloom look like he developed Down’s Syndrome or something. I had to watch the trailer just to see who he was in the movie because it didn’t look like he was in the photo…weird.
I have never, ever understood the hatred towards Anderson. And I never will. He consistently makes very fun movies; best of all, he doesn’t use shakycam. In a different decade – say, if he had started doing this in the ’80s – people would REVERE him. I’m looking forward to this and really digging the trailer quite a bit. Looks like a very entertaining vision.
I got the Sam Strange articles. Those were funny. This character is terrible, though. Is Duke Fleed supposed to be some sort of cross between Gene Shalit and Rorschach with some aspergers throw in for good measure?

It’s a period piece….TO THE EXTREME!!!!!! OK, I want to see it. It looks almost as realistic as Transformers the Movie.
I have nothing against Paul WS Anderson. The guy makes films which do exactly what they say on the cover, and for some reason, they do very well. Hell, as someone somewhere (most likely here) stated – the Resident Evil films are the only, and I stress, only, action film series of the past decade to have a female lead. Let alone the fact that they’re terrible for a moment, and keep in mind that they’re surprisingly successful, and surprisingly bearable viewing. I’ve met quite a few people who are serious Resident Evil series fans. But, just like the games, I cannot get into the movies enough to warrant serious viewing attention.
With all that said, somebody do a bloody sequel to Event Horizon, because if there’s a film that doesn’t really need a sequel but would actually do great if it had one, it’s Event Horizon.
Arrrrrrrgghhh!!!!! I wanted my Three Musketeers SEQUEL with Charlie Sheen, Kiefer Sutherland, and Oliver Platt again! Damn you, you drug called Charlie Sheen with the hyper-charged brain, you!!
How would he make films in the ’80s? The movies he steals from wouldn’t have been made yet.
I was looking forward to this but I’m pretty disappointed they had to throw in all the crazy crap. That said, I have the biggest hetero-crush on Ray Stevenson, so, I’m seeing it regardless.
