When the list of potential Wolverine directors surfaced, I had a very strong feeling Hugh Jackman would favor an old colleague. And he did. According to Deadline, Fox has offered The Wolverine to James Mangold.
Mangold isn’t the most exciting choice, but I’d have to argue that it’s a solid one. 3:10 to Yuma, Walk the Line and Copland are all pretty damn good. It’s his rom-com stuff that trips him up.
Jackman and Mangold clearly got along well together, something that’s evident from Jackman genuinely appearing to have fun in Kate and Leopold. It’s certainly not the worst choice, and if it’s 3:10 in Japan, I could be pretty damn happy with it.
God, I’m setting myself up for heartbreak again, aren’t I…

I am a staunch ‘3:10 to Yuma’ fan. Hell, i might even love that fucker. A one-legged Batman Vs. a chubby Maximus with Foster in full on creep mode. Whoa. ‘Walk the Line’ is pretty solid as well. I think Wolverine’ll turn out alright.
Elisabeth Rappe, Theres…Man…Gold, in them Director’s Chair! Mangold is a much better choice to direct…The Wolverine, than…Darren Aronofsky!
A Wolverine movie could be great – just don’t overtstuff it with mutants to try and turn it into another X-Men movie. No one was waiting to see the Blob on screen.

Seriusly, you liked Yuma? It wasnt horrible, but if you compare it to a real western, like True Grit, its a pretty lame little thing. After the mess they made of Wolvie last time, they really need a man with a vision to make Logan interesting again. Mangold aint it.
