I’ve been a gigantic fan of G.I. Joe ever since I was about 5 years old. I used to watch the cartoon all the time, and the animated movie was something I watched just about every weekend. My Dad got me the Marvel comic, and ever since it restarted on IDW, I’ve been collecting it monthly.
Basically, anything and everything G.I. Joe I find awesome, and now there’s a trailer for the sequel to the amazing G.I. Joe: Rise Of Cobra. Aptly titled G.I. Joe: Retaliation.
G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra was a huge surprise at the end of summer 2009, after the bad worth of mouth that preceded it. The trailer looks pretty great, it’s got Dwayne Johnson scowling, a split second of Channing Tatum (I hope that’s all we get of that charisma void in the film) and Bruno has his smug look to him. I hope he’s in as much of a “Giving a shit” mood as he was in his small cameo in The Expendables, and not sleepwalking through it. I also love how Ray Stevenson has become a part of several blockbusters in the past year. He’s a charismatic actor, and deserves to be headlining more films (Kill The Irishman is amazing.).

Rene F. Rangel, YO JOE!…Great write up. I have been a Joe fan, since Larry Hama’s Real American Hero, The animated series, and G.I. Joe Resolute, the web series, which is a sequel to the animated Real American Hero! Did you ever see it? It is on dvd. The only Joe missing from Retaliation that I miss, is…Miss Scarlett! Also, the remaining issues of Hama’s original run will likely be released in June. G.I. Joe Classic 14 arrives in March. G.I. Joe 15 will be the end of the…80’s era Joes.
Rise of Cobra… Amazing? We really have a different meaning to the word “amazing”. Yours must mean, forgettable and extremely rushed.
There are groups of people who, for reasons completely beyond my comprehension, love the absolute living shit out of that movie.
I loathe that film, then again I’m bias, since I always hated the cartoon as well.
Considering Rise of Cobra looked like a SyFy Original, I was pleasantly surprised to see that Retaliation looks like a proper, marginally entertaining film.
meh. GI Joe holds no nostalgic value to me, as the first film quashed whatever goodwill I had towards the seemingly rushed franchise.
The first film was absolute unmitigated shit, and this one looks like more of the same.
Wow, they really took those first movie criticisms to heart. “Kill everyone – start from scratch”. That actually earned some respect from me.
The director has a giant Justin Bieber Shaped question mark hanging over him. I guess after Fast 5 all the Asian music video directors are getting their shot at helming highly choreographed action pieces?
Interesting that IMDB lists Willis’s character name as “Joe” Colton.

Joe Colton was his name in the comic book, and he was given the task of starting up G.I. Joe after a harrowing ordeal in Vietnam. It was one of the last stories told before Marvel stopped the series.
I’m just liking the fact that it looks really good, and seems to be more martial arts oriented.

And THAT’S how you reboot a franchise.

I remember reading the positive review here for GI Joe while most everywhere else had a negative review. When I finally got to see it I have to say I was surprised, surprised that it was even worse than Transformers 2. What a piece of shit that was.
That said, this trailer looked kind of fun.
