Sony Pictures Animation is teaming with Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison Productions to bring us a movie about Hasbro’s Tonka Trucks. I’m kind of speechless, so let’s hear from Sony Pictures Digital Productions prez Bob Osher:
“In its 65 years, Tonka has become more than a toy or a brand — Tonka trucks are a rite of passage for kids all around the world. Time spent with these toys creates memories that last a lifetime as kids are inspired to play using the boundaries of their imagination. We look forward to creating a family friendly motion picture that brings the Tonka experience to life.”
Translation: “We make the movie about the tiny dump trucks and then we make profit.” A script is currently being written by Fred Wolf (Grown Ups, Joe Dirt) so clearly we can expect something cerebral (Grown Ups, Joe Dirt).
No word on casting, but I suspect the typical Happy Madison lot to be trotted out here. Allen Covert needs work and Kevin James was born to play a role that’s only requirement is to make “vroom” noises.

For whatever reason, an R rated Thomas the Tank Engine comes to mind.

I know this quote is sarcastic. It’s just plain mean spirited. I have to defend the Happy Madison movies. Being PG-13 affairs, they are great entertainment for the whole family. Movies such as Jack and Jill and Bucky Larson have done wonders for…………..ok, ok…I just can’t keep this up anymore.
Adam Sandler will burn in hell when the time comes.
I will defend Billy Madison to my dying day. But… toy trucks.
And I will also defend Happy Gilmore. But the string of movies from the last 8 years or so? They’re insulting.
I would defend Billy Madison, The Wedding Singer, and The Waterboy….Happy Gilmore is borderline.
Post Waterboy it’s clear Sandler stopped caring. I actually think Jack & Jill is Sandler pulling an Andy Kaufman like prank….I already have hundreds of millions of dollars, how about I see just how bad a movie I can make and still make money? With Grown-ups, it was, “can I make money by just hanging out with my friends?”
