Who really cares at this point? The movie is out, and people are pissed/disappointed. It’s going to lose money and I would have to think that fans are no longer invested in these marketing ploys to trump up which is apparently something new related to the movie.
I honestly can’t recall a movie in recent memory which has continued to teases for new details once the movie has come out. If all it is is a release date for the Blu-Ray that’s pretty pathetic. 

I have such ill will towards this film, that I really don’t care at this point. Just counting the days until Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter.

Prometheus is going to lose money because a bunch of fans were upset that it didn’t deliver exactly what they promised? The audience I saw it with (on opening night, no less) consisted mostly of college kids who had no idea it was even supposed to be related to Alien, and they all enjoyed it from start-to-finish. Many of the people I’ve come into contact with who have seen the movie either A) didn’t know that the two films shared the same sandbox, or B) didn’t care that the two films shared the same sandbox. All the same, they enjoyed the film and (to my knowledge) have been spreading some positive word of mouth.

But, yeah, sure. Negative word of mouth from a collection of habitually displeased man-children is certainly going to leave the film dead in the water. There’s no possible way this post-release viral might lead to something awesome, and now begin the cries that Ridley Scott helped rape the childhoods of so many, and so on ad nauseum.

Jesus, how do you all keep awake through all the cynicism? Chud is really losing its charm, forsaking objective criticism for the over-inflated egos of its new breed. 

So, the only reason they hired Guy Pearce, then made him up as an old dude for the whole movie, is so he could do these little flash back internet tidbits?  How very Lost of them.

This stuff was cute when we didn’t know Prometheus……now it just seems trite. 

The bluray comes out two days prior on 10/9/12.  10/11/12 is the first day of the New York Comic Con.

“meaningful discussion” must mean negative discussion only.Get over the fact that you didn’t like a movie.

Just a wild guess – they may have shot some extra scenes of what happens after the film (the new beastie all grown up? Shaw reaching the Engineer’s home planet?) to serve as an appetizer for the sequel. FWIW I loved Prometheus warts and all. Fassbender’s performance alone is worth the ticket price. 

Simply being dumb never stopped Transformers or boat loads of other movies from making money.

People didn’t like the film, and get crucified for it. Go figure.

WEYLAND IS AN ANDROID! OMG Don’t you get it? OMG, etc. I want the sequel dammit.

FFS, people…its a movie.  Enjoy it for what it is, or dont buy a ticket!  There are people that expected this film to actually answer the riddles of the universe.  I am of an age to have seen ALIEN in the theater – saw every other of the franchise (inc. the AvP shit) on the big screen, too.  And for the life of me dont understand why there are so many out there bitching.  Sure, there were plot holes…but it was an entertaining event, left me wanting much, much more, and people are talking about it.  What more could you ask for?  Maybe more butts in seats…

I’ve never seen Guy Pearce ham-act so much as in these viral videos and Prometheus itself. It’s rather odd, he’s usually better. If this is the effect Scott has on his performances, best to stay away. Maybe he’s trying to channel Rupert Murdoch?

This video helps make my point clearer- that the focus of the narrative is David. The plot has a tangential connection to Alien( which is something that Scott said all along) and is instead the story of David and his rise to become a ubermunsch. This puts a “shoody narrative” into greater focus and make it a much more interesting story. Tim. your negativity toward this film seems to be something quite personal-where you let down by the lack of more direct connections to Alien? Or the lack of resemblance to an Alien esque story? Lack of horror? I would suggest seeing it again with the ubermunsch contex( complete now with Nietzche in the background) and maybe you will come out of it with a better perspective. Even though I dug the story very much, it felt a bit hollow for an Alien movie. I wished it was confident enough to be it’s own entity.  We sorely need more provocative sci-fi movies (so I’ll take and enjoy whatever I can get) but this one was hampered by shoehorning Space Jockeys and xenomorphs.  It felt like with a few tweaks it could just have easily had worn the brand of Blade Runner: David is totally a way less fucked up Roy Batty and Weyland was an obsessive Tyrell.  Just wished Fox and Scott had the balls to make it something separate from any other property.

PS, fuck them for trying to spread a narrative across multiple movies; It felt like it was filling time by saving itself up for another movie. Why make a lesser product by holding back for another story? Just, ugh.

Thanks for the heads-up on this. The movie isn’t satisfying–it clearly begs a sequel. But it was engaging, and I’ve enjoyed poring through the online companion material as I talk through some of the movie’s ideas with friends.

I’m probably the only person here who hasn’t seen this movie. I figured it to be exactly what Tim described in his review, which I read to be pretty fair. 
 
And for all those who jump on here, bashing the “narcissists and cynics”, come the fuck on, dude. You are completely negating the reason for their existence. Our, existence. I hate a lotta’ shit. A lotta’ movies suck to me. If I thought about Avengers long enough, I’d probably hate it. (Avengers was amazing) But damn it, do I love arguing about the shit I hate. I LOVE proving that something sucks. So, instead of bashing us, prove us wrong. Much better use of your time, and you might even develop a personality.

Nick, the fans are begging you. Take back the site from the attitude driven, trite commentary offering, posting stories days after they appear on other site hacks that are running the show now. 

I’m not too interested in this sort of stuff anymore.  I’d love it if this was a sequel announcement or trumpeting some tangential feature on the upcoming bluray concerning more Weyland stuff (perhaps a mini movie about young Weyland creating David?).  But this “releasing” 30 seconds of footage of a dude whispering some Nietszche to pump himself up to deliver a speech we already saw is for the birds.  
 
Back to what someone posted above and what my wife pointed out to me concerning fan reaction.  I told her “a lot” of people were having problems with the film.  She pointed out that my perception of “a lot” is ridiculously skewed and representative of some film writers I follow and hardcore people on message boards.  The bulk of people aren’t having these whinging discussions about faulty plot mechanics like hardcore movie nerds.  They’re enjoying a technically incredible sci-fi film that quickens the pulse and offers a little more food for thought than most summer films.  I think we all get up our own asses with our collective movie nerddom and assume the rest of the viewing public is stupid if there not on our page. 
 
In my opinion, the movie makes more sense from a narrative and character standpoint after a second viewing.  I felt kind of silly about some of the complaints I had initially after my second viewing.  Also, all the theories and debates have been fascinating.  I think people are generally upset now, but will come to appreciate the film a great deal more.  Then, I’m no huge Ridley or Alien fan and wasn’t blowing this movie for 6 months before it came out.  How could you not be disappointed after finally seeing a film you’d been telling everybody who would listen of its assured genius for half a year? 

I didn’t buy the hype, however, I saw it last night and I liked it a lot. I guess if you don’t have retarded expectations, its not bad
