Last night Bryan Singer let us in on his latest casting choice via twitter, and it was a doozy. The tweet announced something no one thought to see coming: Peter Dinklage would be joining the cast of X-Men: Days Of Future Past.
Naturally we were all quick to scour the Marvel world for the obvious possibilities based on Dinklage’s stature, and aside from Puck of Alpha Flight (who is not a mutant, as I first read) you’d have to be real unimaginative to come up with anything, with even that being kind of a weird stretch. Things have developed today though, as Variety has accentuated the news with their confirmation that Dinklage will not only be playing a villain, but “the main antagonist.”
This thickens the plot for sure, and makes me all the more excited to see what Singer and co. have come up with. If they’re thinking outside of the box, all the better. Dinklage is a fine character actor and one who is enjoying a zeitgeisty popularity thanks to Game of Thrones, and a popularity well earned after a lot of years of toiling.
Dinklage’s role will be a hot scoop, so keep an ear out for clarification sooner rather than later.

…Mojo?
Renn Brown, Maybe he is playing…The Impossible Man! The green goofball of planet Popup, is on a scavenger hunt! It is…X-Tremely Humorous!
Modok? Brainchild?
ARCADE!
Cylon Baby, ARCADE would be…Awesome! He is one of my favorite X-Men Villains. He is so over the top and carefree even really…EEEEEEEEEEEvil villains like Dr Doom, are curious enough about Arcade…Not to kill him. I think Arcade is fairly EEEEEvil himself, but he is also amusing. A…Giant Pinball Machine with heroes and gal pals, family members trapped in pinballs? Gift Wrapped hostages. Arcade as Carnival Barker?
Rene F. Rangel, Save Brainchild and…Sauron and The Savage Land for another film. Though, I do not know if Ka-Zar and Co are in a more…MARVELous Embrace, than…FOXxy!
How about Apocalypse? Not sure how they’d pull off the look…
PAJohnDoe78, Apocalypse would be cool. However, now with…Avengers 2, THOR 2 going cosmic and introducing The Guardians Of The Galaxy, and hopefully…The Badoon, along with THANOS, now it is also time FOX went in the same direction. The X-Men should meet…The Starjammers! Another film could include The Shiar. Sure The Kree are at Marvel, but there are numerous other alien races that despise Lilandra and Deathbird and co!
Juggernaut’s not a mutant either but they used him in X-Men 3: X Harder.
I’m thinking they’ll just make him a mean ol’ human. Cameron Hodge, Bolivar Trask, or one of the other Sentinel creators. Some small madman on a crusade to destroy all mutants. He creates the Sentinels and things get a little out of control.
Or, from Wikipedia:
Prime Sentinels – by Bastion and Operation: Zero Tolerance, handicapped humans equipped with nanotechnology without their knowledge at Prospero Clinic, used as sleeper agents until activated by attack or presence of a mutant.
Dinklage obviously is not “handicapped,” but they might use the same concept to transform somebody nonthreatening into a killing machine.
What if they made him the Super Skrull and tied it in with the Avengers since Kl’rt teams up with Thanos? Superimposing Dinklage’s likeness on an alien/cosmic being would make more sense than forcing a dwarf character into the equation. Or they could make him the Beyonder and use Xmen as a launch point for Secret Wars to get Spiderman into the fold. OR he could be Molecule Man and still tie it in to Secret Wars. God I want a Secret Wars movie.
Trask, or CG Nimrod or Apocalypse.
I’ll join in on the speculate-athon and say they’re dropping Hugh Jackman and getting a Wolverine who’s closer to the character’s actual, comic-book height.
It’s not going to happen. Like it or not, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine is the most successful element of the X-men franchise.
Trask is a really good guess. It’s about time they made a real Sentinel movie with Master Mold. I wonder if they would incorporate his daughter and The Twelve time traveling arc. They certainly need to cut the shit and trust X-Men fans to follow a time traveling story with Bishop and Cable.
I hope they never incorporate The Twelve into anything, because that storyline was garbage. If they can work Cable or Bishop into things with some sort of mystery angle, great, but even at the height of my love for the X-Men, The Twelve was a huge, huge disappointment involving a lot of characters that should never make it into a movie, and a lot of non-sensical and quickly forgotten 90’s bullshit. Anyone remember the “death” of Wolverine, followed by his quickly-dropped heel turn? Yup, the X-Men Twelve storyline was the culmination of all things 90s at it’s most 90s-est!
I think the most absurd part of The Twelve is the Living Monolith. He’s just way too much to take seriously. But I could see them hamming it up with the storyline, just because they’ve fucked up every other X-Men movie and are probably looking for a convoluted way to get Apocalypse in there (although they should just make a Cable movie with Stryfe to do that). If they can turn the Dark Phoenix into garbage, it doesn’t really matter if the source material is that good. I do love all of the cheesy 90’s stuff, though, just because that was my childhood and I feel nonsensical is more charming than supercerial.
marvel owns modok.
And Modok just OWNS.
