Now that George A. Romero has started shooting the latest chapter in his zombie legacy, the production has seen fit to bestow us with the final rundown on the cast; Alan Van Sprang, Kenneth Welsh, Kathleen Munroe, Devon Bostick, Richard Fitzpatrick, Stefano Colacitti and Athena Karkanis will make up the zombie buffet in this new installment.
Details have been pretty tight since the announcement was made on this still-untitled flick, but the plot supposedly revolves around the inhabitants of an isolated island off the North American coast who find their relatives rising from the dead to eat their kin. The leaders of the island feud over whether or not to kill their reanimated relatives or preserve them in hopes of finding a cure.
No word on the official release date yet, but Voltage Pictures is handling international sales of the film, while Cinetic Media will sell domestic rights to interested parties.

I don't mind more Romero zombies. I mind zombies on a plane. I mind low budget DTV zombies. I mind stupid box covers with bad zombies throwing up eye balls. I mind "non-mbies" (i.e. crazy, virus, et cetera – 28 Days Later and Resident Evil 5 being the exceptions). But I don't mind George using zombies to explore social issues. After all, it is the genre he redefined so let him milk it. Even Land of the Dead was better than some of the crap coming down the pipe. Did anyone see the Day of the Dead remake/reimagining/heresy ? I just hope George can still make me think about the issues of the day.
I guess the follow-up to Knightriders is getting farther and farther away.
I hope that he doesn't go handheld. I thought land of the dead was 100x better than diary. Trying to shoehorn a plot and a script into a film gimmick really limits the story. Not to mention, diary was boring as hell.

This same plot was used in The Walking Dead comic book. Before some angry geek chokes on his inhaler and thinks I'm busting on Romero for being a rip off artists, I'm not. Just using an interesting coincidence to mention the comic's existence to any Romero Zombie fans who may not know about it but would definetly like it.

LAND was fucking hilarious…it is obvious that he took delight in SOTD and was using Universal's dime to take the piss out of American action films and his own zombie mythology. DIARY was a good-enough diversion, I understand why people would be upset with its campy tone and uneven performances but that is what I liked about it. For an elderly director, Romero is surprisingly sly and full of vigor.
The plot seems very similar to the Stephen King short story "Home Delivery", which was in Nightmares and Dreamscapes. It was also in a collection of stories called Book of the Dead, based on Romero's zombie universe. It is one of the single best zombie stories I have ever read.
I loved they guy's zombie flicks until Diary. That was close to being a steaming pile. If he goes on and makes a sequel for that, count me out.
George may not have another Night/Dawn/Day of the Dead (or Creepshow) in him anymore, but I'm always eager to see George's new stuff. On one hand, I'd like to see him do something besides zombies, but I don't think producers will give him money anymore to do anything but zombie movies. I think the man deserves respect despite what people think of his current output, not only for the quality of his best work, but even when George fails, it's always an interesting failure.
Still haven't seen Diary or Land yet but the box covers are tempting when I see them in stores as I love horror movies. Any thoughts? And any thoughts on Cannibal Holocaust as I bought it but am doubting I have the sack to sit through it. Don't you love it when somebody asks a question and then insults himself for you? I think it's AWESOME!
