Vin Diesel headed to Berlin to help and sell the international rights for Riddick, the second sequel to Pitch Black, which got surprisingly greenlit last week. While doing a presentation to Russian buyers, some story elements from the film were revealed, and they all sound like they come right from a 1979 Italian Star Wars knock off:
Though billed as a back-to-basics approach to the character popularized by Diesel, the script features the character — the most wanted man in the galaxy — left for dead on a barren alien planet, dealing with “trisons” (three-legged bisons) and “mud demons.” He must then contend with two squads of bounty hunters, one of which ride rockets called jetcycles.
I wonder how Riddick ends up in that situation; it’ll be interesting to see if Diesel and David Twohy even make reference to Chronicles of Riddick or if they’ll just brush it off.
By the way, about the movie being a 1979 Italian Star Wars knock off: whether that’s good or bad is up to you.
Thanks to the ever-reliable Brian Henne for the link to The Hollywood Reporter.

There is no way the Riddick movie will be half as awesome as that trailer!
"You are about to be hurled" = awesome. Riddick is definitely a higher budget mish-mash in the vein of these wonderfully dodgy old things. You should do a list of English language genre movies that play better with an Italian dub track and subtitles.
1. Color of Night
Bisons have 4 legs. Trisons have 3. Bi…tri…4…3…oh the stupidity.
Ten bucks says they go prequel with Riddick to avoid connecting it to "Chronicles"
PEW PEW PEW!
I like the idea of Riddick being dropped into a new scenario with only the barest of continuity connecting his adventures. Something very pulpy about that.
I miss MST3K
hopefully its just riddick alone on the planet with some kind of creative bounty squad.. heck, smokin' aces in space sounds good to me 😀
Yes! What am I the only one excited for more space conan?
Universal will figure a way to wedge pitch black and chronicles of Riddick in the title. Makes sense. The premise sounds like a bunch of fun. Can't wait. Vin diesels ego, please don't fuck this up .
That synopsis sounds like the wrse kind of crap
Hey Star Crash didn't look that bad… Gen Chang and that dude frm Earthquake. And space-cleave.
Why all the hate for RIDDICK? Hey, I'd rather see an interesting failure (a la DUNE) in the cinema than a boring-ass success (everything Bay has done since THE ISLAND). And at least they tried to give some scope to the universe, made it an EPIC, not some two-handed character study. If I wanted to see Brecht's RIDDICK I'd hire Ian Hart, show it in a theatre made out of two shoe boxes in London and sit watching it in a burgundy beret, drinking merlot and smoking a Gauloise. BUT I DON'T! MAKE IT EPIC!!!
Star Crash – A Quinn Martin production.
That trailer points out the other reason we all loved PITCH BLACK. Radha Mitchell's little skimpy bippy shirt. What the hell happened to that actress, anyway?
make this look way better than Star Wars
Looking forward to this. The character and Diesel are a good fit, and it's hard not to love Pitch Black. A mix of that film and the bounty hunter aspect of Chronicles would work very well indeed. Chinlund won't turn down the work.
I hope there is some connection to Chronicles. I know not many people liked that movie, but I thought the ending was a neat setup and would like to see that explored. . .
But that said, I'll take any kind of new Riddick action. More video games would be nice, too!
Seriously? Three-legged bison might be cool visually (Wayne Barlowe's Expedition is filled with awesome tripedal alien creatures) but calling them "trisons" is retarded. Mud demons I can get with- kind of a Star Trek/Galaxy Quest rock monster thing going on. Jetcycles… meh. But trisons? Get the fuck out.
